interesting commentary: I read it on 31261! News, but it looks like it might have been on USAToday - for the lazy people - he talks about how christianity's refusal to change its views on homosexuality is detrimental to religion and unchristian. that's probably a lousy abstract of this article, but I'm sick and groggy. I'm kind of put off by his wording that homosexuality is an "accident of birth" - other than that, it's a pretty decent commentary, especially coming from a Baptist minister.

do you think if religion was taken out of it there would still be as much widespread hate though? I feel like some people just hate because it's expected of them if they follow the Bible.

the procreation excuse is also tied in to following the Bible, so that 'excuse to hate' would be eliminated too. I'm just wondering, I guess, if religion and religious propoganda is primarily to blame for the anti-gay movement.

the stickers, little metal rings etc... you're lucky you don't have them in new york. i just think that religion is one vehicle for homophobia for people that already are that way. the non-homophobes go to different places of worship. it would be nice if they'd shut up about the evils of homosexuality for the poor gay kids sake. that alone would be really worthwhile.

ohhh that rainbow stuff!! we have them in NY! early-teenager gays wear them, mostly. ha! I guess you're right, and there would be no way to know anyway, since we're all ingrained with whatever religious majority resides in our community (for the U.S., it's mostly christian).

if there were more religious role models like the one who wrote this, people who were religious but voy NOT homophobic, I think all of the other religious-sheep types would start changing their tune. We need a good personable fair-minded religious leader who can herd the masses in the right direction.
